I read alprozam is suppose to last for 12 hrs. but I really only feel it last for something around 7 for me, people who have taken it how long did it last for you.

I believe it is the generic name of Xanax ? I dont think it would last that long but could be wrong in both counts ......

Benzo's dont usually have that long a life span .......just my half cent worth

I think the effects of Xanax wear off after about 4 or 5 hours. It is one of the shorter acting benzo's. Something like Klonopin or Valium will give you longer coverage if that is what you are looking for.

I believe the 1/2 life of Xanax is 6 - 12 hours.

Half-life: time taken for blood concentration to fall to half its peak value after a single dose. . This time may vary considerably between individuals.

I agree, if your looking for longer lasting steadier levels I would go with Valium.  That is my personal opinion and yes I do take Valium.  I hope you discuss this with your physician.

I take this drug.  I take one .50 mgm every six hours, if thats any help.

The half life of the drug is something like 6-8 hours (varying greatly upon the individual), but it's therapeutic life is much, much shorter than that. If it really is lasting seven hours for you then you're an unusual case, and perhaps lucky.

The problem with Xanax is that it can lead to tolerance even at moderate dosages. If you find that you need to take it on a daily basis, consider talking to your physician about switching to Klonopin.

I may need to switch to something else its not working all that great anymore maybe my tolerance is getting higher, I guess I'll have to make another trip to the dr. so Klonopin last longer? It was working up to 7 hrs now maybe only 4 or so, I think I need a new dr.

For me it only lasted about 5-6 hours.

A trip to the doctor is probably in order, for sure. And if you feel you need a new one, then go right on ahead. The short-acting benzos are pretty bad about tolerance, and since you're switching I'd recommend going to a psychiatrist. Their specialty is these meds, and they should know exactly how to handle your case.

Klonopin definitely lasts longer. Valium is similar.

I agree with Debaser re follow up with the appropriate physician as they are much more savvy re mental health drugs.
