Hi all,   I have also posted this on the Bipolar board, but I thought that since my issues cross over to both boards, I would ask here too. I have a couple of questions for everyone and if you think it's too personal, then by all means don't feel as though you have to answer because you don't.   At my pdoc appt last night, he said that I should apply for Social Security Disabilty because I'm not even close to being able to return to work and it could be a a year or more before I am considering all the issues I have going on.   Has anyone applied for SSD?  Did you receive it?  How many times were you denied before you were approved (if you were)?  Did you have a lawyer involved?  How long is the process?   I'm just trying to get a sense of what's involved with this and what to expect.  Any info would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.   Take Care, Wen

Yes I had applied and it took me 3 1/2 years to get it and was denied 2 times and then in front of the ADA Judged I had a major attack but yes I did have lawyer with me, but for me it was a long process and I even know of some that have taken longer and ended up quiting to get it but for some they got it right off the bat.

  But there is a site somewhere under SSD that tells you how to apply with the do's and don't when applying for SSD I just don't recall the sites name but there.

I've applied for it 3 times and been rejected, But in Aus its like a pension so they put me on what they call newstart disability, which is basicly unemployment benefits but i dont haveto look for work...

Hi all,   Thanks for the information everyone and thanks for the link Kitt.  I sure hope it doesn't take over 3 years to get it - geez louise that's a long time!!!  I'm hoping the psychiatrist is right by telling me that I should apply - I'm also going to have my regular physican send in whatever she has has, because I also have some medical conditions that may help me to get it.  I don't know, it's worth a try I guess.   Thanks again everyone, Wen

I think your right on by applying and if I am not mistaken, they pay back to the date of the original filing when they approve you.  Don't quote me on that one. :)

Hopefully yours will be straight forward.

Thank Kitt, in a way I feel like I'm abusing the system by applying because I'm only 42.  But then on the other hand I don't because we do need to some more money coming in and I can't work right now, then I guess this is what I have to do.   Wen
