I haven't posted in a while. I started taking cymbalta and it helped me so much. I went to the ER for stomache problems and they told me I am pregnant and that I can no longer take my Cymbalta. I'm so dizzy I can hardly move, I tried so many medications before cymbalta and that was the only one that worked for me. I have done some research on it and it says to talk to your healthcare provider to see if the benefits of taking it outweight the risks, main risk (low birth weight) My doctor refuses to prescribe it for me, should I find a new doctor or just accept that I will not be able to function for 9 months? sad

I would get a second opinion IF it were I to be quite honest ...........

There are many docs that do still have ppl on this med and other meds during preggars .......

Just my opinon....PLEASE do ask a professional .........Having a baby should be a HAPPY wonderful experience......NOT something you will be dreading ..........

I took Paxil CR through 3 pregnancies and everyone of my babies were born healthy and have no problems what so ever.

Find another doctor, if he wont prescibe the meds.  My OB told me not to take the Paxil (my PCP prescibed it for me) but I took it anyway.  I knew I needed it and going through a med change for me would do more harm than good.

Hellooo I'm pregnant too. Whatever idiot told you that you can't have your Cymbalta are idiots (in my opinion because doctors frustrate me lol). Every doc I've seen said I can take my Lexapro but I had a hard time getting my Ativan back... (which I did) I saw a psychiatrist and got 'em back.

HOWEVER, sometimes getting with a psychiatrist can take several weeks, so see a fam doc.
When I went to the ER (food poisoning) they were trying to switch me to all SORTS of crazy meds that supposedly had a sedative quality with antihistamine. (Antihistimine? what the heck.. that stuff MAKES me anxious grr lol)

I recommend finding another doc and getting a second opinion. I have a hard time believing there isn't one out there willing to prescribe you an anti-depressant while pregnant. I mean really... all my docs were quite happy to leave me on Lexapro (an anti-depressant) due to the complications of withdrawels.

I say "why try and fix what ain't broken". I don't get these docs and them taking away our meds when we need them. If you check out a few of my previous posts you can see all the crazy things I've been going thru with my medications and doctors while being pregnant.

I agree with the others, get a second opinion and who told you to just stop and AD cold turkey................

You deserve to enjoy this pregnancy and there are lots of women taking their meds that do just fine...............

We are here for you so keep posting and get the second opinion or 3rd if you need too.

I agree with everyone else here.  But if I may ask, which Dr. won't prescribe the Cymbalta - your pdoc, family doc or OB/GYN?  I am asking because my OB prescribed my Effexor XR for me while I was pregnant.  My benefits FAR outweighed the risks!  I too have 2 children - a 6 year old daughter with whom I took 60 mg of Paxil while I was pregnant and a 9 month old son with whom I took 75 mg of Effexor XR throughout the pregnancy.  Both kids were born healthy as can be with no withdrawals.  And both are still healthy.  They weighed 7 lbs, 9 oz and 7 lbs, 14 oz at birth!

So, I would definitely say get a 2nd or even 3rd opinion!!  You should be happy and not feeling miserable though your pregnancy...many of us here know exactly what you are going through and are here to support you in any way we can!!!

Thankyou all so much for your advice, I felt like a horrible person for even considering taking the cymbalta again. I will go to a different OB, that is the DOC who told me to stop taking it cold turkey and that is the doc that will only prescribe buspirone, which does nothing for me. So I will see someone else thankyou very much!

Firstly, congratulations!! I hope this is a wonderful time for you.  I think all the good advice has already been given here!! Keep seeing health professionals until you find one who can work with you and make you (and bubs) feel comfortable. 

Please don't feel guilty for wanting to take a medication that keeps you in balance, just because you are bringing a new life into the world doesn't mean you should give up your own sanity!!! Bubs will thank you when it has a happy mum! keep up the search and congrats again!

Just wanted to add that Cymbalta is also a SSNRI just as Effexor is...hope that helps a bit in relieving your anxiety as well...I know everyone is different, but your baby will be just fine...keep your faith!  And yes, please seek a 2nd opinion for your OB...they should be helping you as well as the baby!!! 

P.S. You shouldn't feel horrible for wanting to take the Cymbalta again...you do what is right for you and your precious unborn bundle!

Thankyou so much! Yes very excited about the baby!!! I think the problem is that my OB doesnt understand that I have generalized anxiety disorder with panic attacks, and he doesnt understand how severe it is. I am sure he generally deals with women being nervous BECAUSE they are pregnant.. haha I just want to be able to function, cymbalta was a lifesaver for me, hope I can help him understand! I'll let you all know what happens!

YAY!  I am so happy he gave you your Cymbalta!  Like I said earlier, keep your faith and you and your baby will be just fine....now you will be able to enjoy your pregnancy and feel like yourself!!  Congrats!!!
