For me it means I am not really with me or my mind at the time ..I dissociate from everything and anything around me .......if I am traumitized or want to escape from emotional pain
Basically I kinda like blank out so to speak and do not get into doing anything but thats me I am sure others have their input as well Boxcastle .......
Here is another way to think of it
These defense mechanisms, which include dissociation and depersonalization , help to alleviate some of our emotional pain. Unfortunately, they also may block us from learning new ways of seeing the situation, causing us to re-experience the symptoms of the initial trauma when stressful events trigger us in the present.
