Sleeping aids

Hello all,

So my anxiety attacks seem to have subsided, but I'm still feeling overly anxious and the biggest symptom I have is insomnia. I've been falling asleep at a decent hour, but then waking up at 2 or 3 in the morning and can't go back to sleep until it's almost time to wake up again. Some nights I can get as much as 6 or 7 hours of sleep, but on bad nights (like last night) I only got 4.5. I feel like I'm handling the actual anxiety very well, I've been practicing meditation for the last few years and feel like I have a great grip on my emotions in general, but I cannot deal with lack of sleep. I feel like if I could get decent sleep, I can definitely control the anxiety with the coping methods I already have.

My question is, what are some of the best sleep aids that people use? Ones that don't leave you feeling really groggy in the mornings? I'm seeing my doctor this afternoon and am going to ask her to prescribe me one.

Laurar i agree with Kitt the benzos do help.I take xanax for sleep and sometimes atarax(hydroxizine). Like she said they are short acting and want cause you to be groggy the next day.But the hydroxizine depending on what dose you take can cause you to still be sleepy in the morning,so i take it when i know i dont have to be anywhere early the next day.

Klonopin saved my life when I felt I was going to die from insomnia. It is probably the best sleep aid I have tried, and I have tried them all! :)
