Hey guys!  I used to post here awhile back.  I was able to overcome my anxiety and panic attacks and have pretty much been free of the symptoms for about a year now.  I became engaged and am getting married in July.  You would think this is a source of anxiety for me, but so far the planning has been easy.  Just a pig roast/party reception instead of the hoity toity stuff.  Nuff about that....

Recently I have been experiencing a very strange feeling in my throat..just above where my voice box is.  It's not painful, it doesn't hurt, it's not like I have a hard time swallowing or anything like that.  It's just this weird pressure type of feeling.  Right smack in the center.

Now I have been really good with not running to the Dr. every time I have an ache or pain, but for some reason this is really bothering me.  Does anyone else get this? 

My natural stupid curiosity scans the web and the one thing that keeps poping up is "womens heart attack signs"   Ugh.  Don't you just hate the Internet?

oh pam i have same feeling as you out of nowhere ,i wonder what is it? Can be a nodule in throat,ask your pdoc for a ultrasound or reference to a specialist.

I have been having a strange bout with a flutter type feeling in my throat.  It comes on and off.  Not painful, very annoying and scary.  I also have been having a feeling a skipped heart beats.  Soooo, off to the cardiologist I went.  From the description I gave he wanted to check for aortic valve disorder and put me on a 24 hour holtor monitor.  The results came back negative, every thing within normal limits.  Now being one with anxiety, I am questioning myself if I should get some type of tests done on my throat LOL!  The feeling I get in my throat is comparible to an eye twitch.  Keep us posted!

MzPam congratulations!!!! for both the engagement and getting a handle on your anxiety..way to go!! I've never had that throat thing happen to unless I've actually got something stuck down there, but it sounds like it's fairly common for some others.

I think it's probably a good idea to check it with your doc if it continues or gets worse..let us know how everything goes and congrats again..it's lovely you have you back xx

Thanks for the encouragement people!   I always enjoyed coming to this site when I was having severe issues with my anxiety and panic.  I too suffer from "skipped" heart beats (both PAC's and PVCs) and had the complete work up done about 2 years ago.  Everything was fine.  I will always remember what the doctor said to me when he saw my premature beats.  I said to him, "Look... there they are!!!!  That's not normal!!!"  and said, "Pam.. you're right.  It's NOT normal... BUT IT'S NOT HARMFUL"   I think that was the beginning of the end to my anxiety.

Now with this throat thing it's completely different.  It's not "inside" my throat but more like someone is putting pressure in and around my voicebox.  I consider myself to be in pretty good shape and I work out regularly.  But for some reason I just can't seem to get the fact that this might be a circulatory/heart related issue.  I'm now starting to obsess about it which is making it worse so it's got to be stress right?  Reflux? Craziness?  LOL

Hey MZ, sounds like you've been doing so well... don't let the anxiety creep back up. If you're worried about it go to the Doc as soon as you can so that he can reassure you that it's nothing (because it's nothing)!!! The longer you obsess about it the more anxious you will become. Good Luck

Liz said it for me...don't let it get to the point where you are really obsessing or catastrophising about it (we panickers should get medals for that!!)...see your doc so you can both have a laugh about anxiety trying to get a foothold again...all power to you (not it) lol xx

MzPam, First, congratulations on the engagement - marriage is a great thing and it sounds like you are doing awesome with the anxiety of planning the wedding.  Way to go!! I agree with what you have been told already, see your doctor before your anxiety is out of control.  You don't want to get back to that point, you know what it's like and I'm sure you don't want to feel that way again. The sensation in my throat just kept getting worse and last night it actually "hurt" and felt like it was burning.

I finally gave in and made an appointment with my Doctor.  This morning at the crack of dawn to be exact.  I told her about my symptoms and explained that I was pretty sure that it wasn't my anxiety or stress that was causing it.  I was right.  It's reflux.  She said that the top of my throat can become really irritated with acid and that's what has happened.  Believe it or not, she said that it can be brought on by exercise jostling things around.  Also alcohol or coffee (I drink beer, but not coffee)  She gave me a weeks supply of Aciphex and an Rx and said that if it wasn't better in 4 - 6 weeks to let her know.

Hi MzPam,   I am sooo happy that you have found out what the problem is and now you must feel somewhat relieved at knowing what it is.   Although having reflux isn't fun, you know what is going and that it's treatable.  Just make sure to follow what the doctor says and you should start feeling better soon.  As with anything else, if you have any problems with the meds or you feel they aren't working, let the doc know as you may need to try a different medication.  You may already know this, but there is also a board here for GERD-Heartburn.  You may want to go there to post and see what others are doing about what foods/drinks they can/cannot eat or drink or other issues you would like to discuss.  As you know, you'll get lots of great information from the members!  Also, don't forget to check out the resources on that board too, you may find something that will be useful to you.  Now your anxiety level will probably be lower and that's a great thing!!  Please keep posting to l et us know how things are going.   Take care, Wen

MzPam,

I am (sort of) new to the forum but wanted to say how happy I am that you took the initiative to get to your doctor before the anxiety got worse.  I also very glad you have a doc who's clear, direct, and obviously in tune with your needs! 

Good luck with your treatment.  I just found out this morning that I have LPR reflux symptoms also, so we'll be crossing paths on the boards.

MzPam, that is really fabulous news, I'm glad they have found a solution for you and I really hope it works out well for you..Percycat is right that it is so very important to find a doc who is emotionally intact (sorry but some just are NOT!) and able to help you out.  I've had some nightmare doc's over the years and the right one makes all the difference in fighting this thing..all power to you MzPam and I look forward to more of your post's xx

I knew there was a reason that I came to these boards all those times ago and now.  You guys are great.

I want to relay a story to you regarding my anxiety and my physician.  When she told me that she wanted me to take Aciphex I asked her what the side effects were.  Alot of medicines give me a "racing heart" so I wanted to be sure.  She pulled out her pda and searched side effects and told me that it wasn't one of the side effects.

Then I told her that one of my biggest fears is an allergic reaction to medicine.  She just laughed, got a glass of H20 and said "here take it and I'll watch to be sure you're ok"

I love her.  LOL

What a great story!! What a great doctor..can I borrow her?!! many medications (especially anti-nauseants) actually trigger a panic attack in me so I am paranoid about new meds.  I'm really glad that you have a doc who cares, and thanks for the story it gave me the chuckles lol! x

It's been 4 days now on the Aciphex and what a difference it has made.  I no longer have that burning feeling in my throat and I actually feel better after I eat.  I know I don't want to stay on the meds forever, but for the time being it has really done me a whole world of good. 

I'm in the Central PA area, so if you need a good family physician, let me know!  LOL
