Anyone use GABA for anxiety?

Hi all,

My naturopathic doc recommended I take GABA (amino acid) to help with my anxiety. I definitely notice that it chills me right out, although the effects only seem to last for a few hours. I'm wondering if I'm not taking enough...does anyone else treat their anxiety with GABA? If so, how much do you take?

Hi Laurar,

I spent a fortune on herbal remedies and Naturopaths (not covered by my ins. - some folks have better ins.) I found absolutely nothing that helped with anxiety that wasn't prescription or CBT. Perhaps my condition is more severe than some. I encourage you to try what ever works for you - but in my case I ran up the credit cards with all kinds of encouraging natural promises of relief including hypnosis & accupunture. I only mention this because I learnt it was important to watch my pocket book & really scrutinize "claims" of relief. Now I strictly follow Drs. orders & take a multivitamin but am no longer experimenting with "natural" cures. I've found diet is very important and easier & cheaper to manage than a list of supplements I've never heard of that probably come from China.
