if you got a call from a well known bank on a sunday night and it was not a 1-800 # would you trust to give them your social, were not because there business hours are not on sundays, it just seems too untrusting , i am to much of a worry wart too just give it to anyone. a ;ady called for my husband and asked if he was home and hes at work, so i gave her his cell but she never called it and i gave him the number, but we both agree to call the number gave to us tomorrow, just to be safe and see if its legit

Many police departments these days have a identity theft officer now. Your bank will certainly have someone you can talk to able this incident.

Yes, I actually never use the number I'm given as a callback, but rather get the business' number from the web or my records. When/if I feel like calling them, I offer them the number I was given and ask if they know about it.

A good rule of thumb is that if you didn't initiate the call yourself, don't give out any identifying information.

Just to say i had some troble with my bank they did call me uninitiated, they did ask me some security questions d.o.b, and then asked me to for random letters of my security q. At no point did they ask me for my National Insurance number. I was sort of expecting the call as i owed them alot of money so i knew it was them. But they did use foreign call centre which a had a really weird number.

Im not trying to confuse the matter jus wanted to giv my experience, and only second or even third the advice every1 else is given. Never give details out over the phone, if it is the bank you should have a security word for which they will ask to name two letters from. They will never ask you for the whole word so be suspicious of any call tht does.
