good luck to you, badfish! i quit 4yrs ago and i wont lie- i still think about having a cigarette EVERY day. the cravings are still there. for me, i went cold turkey. I was smoking a pack a day- and one day i simply threw them in the trash and walked away. i personally didnt use gum or patches, i just used the sheer force of my will. i also avoided seeing friends that smoked around me and avoided pubs/clubs until i knew i wouldnt cave in.
you CAN do this, i used to nurse in oncology- some of the forms of cancer i saw there as a direct result of smoking were awful. the sooner you quit, the sooner your body repairs the damage you have done.
sending you ((((( Hugs )))))) stay strong, keep us posted
