First of all welcome to healingwell this is a great forum. I know what you are going through I have and still am having problems with Benzo & Alcohol abuse, I had stopped drinking totally but recently I have started drinking again but I am doing my hardest to stop as i know it is not doing me any good, I am finding it hard but i will make it, members here have given me great support and advice. It sounds as if you have been through a rough time recently with your marriage breakdown and in some ways i can relate to why you have turned to alcohol i quite often do this if things are going wrong in my life, but please think what you are doing to yourself. In the long run you are making things worse for yourself i know how quickly these addictions can take over your life. Is there a local alcohol support group in your area were you could go and speak to a counsellor? just a suggestion please know that we are here to listen and support you through this so keep posting here.

I have taken Valium and it is very addictive, I now take Tamazepam which is in the same class of drugs as Valium but only take this when i really need to as it is also addictive even more so if you have had dependency problems in the past with drugs as i have. 40mg is a high dose and I would not recommend that you go cold turkey as this can lead to other problems. As Aries8 said mixing Benzo with alcohol could be causing your hyperactivity so please be careful and also agree you need to go and speak to a medical professional about these issues.

With regards to your anxiety have you had any kind of therapy from a pdoc? Such as CAT/CBT i have had CAT and found this form off therapy really helpful for me and I am due to get some CBT soon, Could be something for you to think about.

I really hope things start to sort out for you Gill and as i said know that we are here to listen and support you, it is like a family here and i know there are members here who will relate to your problems and will be able to give more advice and support.

As i said this is a support group and we can only tell of our experiences and strongly advice you to go and get the professional help, you have made the first step by coming here and telling us your story and we are behind you all the way.

Wow ...Thankyou to all the wonderful support and advise I have recieved. Its is day four and I did finally fell asleep after yet another valium. My body is aching so bad and I have the shakes...This week I did see a Gp and he perscribed me Naltrexone...i took it for two days and felt very ill and strange so I sort help with ATODS since, which is (alochol, and drugs rehab support place) The Neltrexone should never have been perscribed untill I had gone through the withdrawl process. ATODS wanted to admit me to hospital straight away so they could watch and monitor me through the withdrawl period, as I knew I was unable to cut down slowly. I am an all or nothing type of girl. After a long and helpfull meeting they finally decided to allow me to do it at home with the help of benzo to keep me calm. It had been along time since i used benzo and didn't think it would be an issue. I have continued to be sober but have quickly started abusing the valium.....I guess u live and learn....After all this I now know I will NEVER be able to drink again and i will NEVER be able to use any type of benzo. I will get through this Guys, I know I will. I am seeing the Atods again in two days as it is the weekend here. Thankyou for all your support!!!

I'm so glad you're trying to get support in your battle against the alcohol and medication addictions. No one should have to fight that alone, and I'm happy you've found us. There are lots of members here with really valuable experiences in defeating their own alcoholism or addictions, or in supporting friends and family who are struggling with it.
