Hi,

The doctors originaly diagnosed me with Anxiety but about a year ago the symptoms got so bad that they realized it was meniers all along.  I have ringing and roaring in my ear and very fast vertigo for about 5 seconds through out the day.  I thought i would share because I know many of you are misdiagnosed with anxiety.  meniers can cause sever anxiety if you dont know whats causing the dizzyness.  check it out and i hope it helps

Hello and welcome. Thank you for sharing and I am glad you now have the right dx. Are you on any medications? Antivert or Valium ?
Again welcome and please remember I am not a professional, just wondering what treatment you may be on.

Hey Kitt,
Im on a daily dueretic and suppose to be taking 3 valiums a day but i try not to take them and deal with the dizzyness as much as possible. Some days are worse than others and I take half a valium.

Ive watched my dad fight a life long battle with Meniere's disease. He has never been put on valium or benzos, just lots of anti-vertigo/anti-nauseant meds. He now has anti-capatory anxiety as a result, afraid of when the next attack will hit- but none of the professors and specialts who dealt with him ever thought it was anxiety or a mood disorder etc. i am sorry you were misdiagnosed. and i am sorry you have meniere's, i know how awful it can be. dad can get hit for 3 weeks at a time, cant move, lies stock still in bed, vomiting, room spinning, no equilibrium etc. awful.

I am a little concerned that members who have health anxiety will read this and worry about whether or not they have this condition. I know its your intention to be helpful, i just don't want anyone assuming that if they have similar symptoms to you, that they have ALSO been misdiagnosed.. but thank you. I hope you find some relief.

p.s i am unsure as to why you would be given Valium to control dizziness? I actually feel more woozy when i take valium.. did they think that by mildly sedating you your symptoms would go away? it sounds like you have had a rough trot.

The purpose of Valium in treating Meniere's Disease is to prevent or reduce vertigo by sedating the vestibular system.

I agree each person is different and will respond to different treatments.

The sx of anxiety are the same for many diseases but Anxiety is a disorder of its own. Remember I am not a professional.

Interesting! I, too, was wondering why Valium would be prescribed for vertigo. Anyway, another thing learned. I hope you feel better, Ringer!
