I have a very dear friend who has always been extremely healthy, productive, active, financially sound, and motivated. He recently found out he has an over-active thyroid and has been a completely different person since. He's undergoing radioactive iodine treatments and praying it works so he doesn't have to resort to surgery. Always being healthy your entire life, it makes it easy to understand how you could take it for granted...and I think he's being hit with that hard reality. He's dealing with a lot of stresses related to the actaul health issues, the radioactive idodine medication, the financial burdens, the petrified feelings about going through the treatment and god-forbid, surgery. I met up with him today, and it was the worst I'd seen. He was jittery, breathing heavily, completely pre-occupied and looked like he was on the verge of tears. Everyone handles everything differently, so I'm doing my best to be supportive where I can. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what he could to do calm his nerves and just make him feel better all round? Medication doesn't seem to be working...if there are any home remedies you know of, I'd LOVE to hear them. He's not the type of person that would meditate or mix up concoctions...I wish he were. So if you can think of anything else, please let me know!
