Wanting to get off Klonopin

Hey All,   Have not posted in a really long time..   I have been on Klonopin .5 am .5 pm for about a year and a half..   I would like get off the drug and see how my anxiety is..   I am on a low dose but am afraid to try to get off because of all the horror stories I have read..    I am on no other medication at all..     Should I cut the night dose in half for a week and then go slowly that way???  Anyone on my dose that has come off with no problem????    I hate taking drugs and I am doing quite well with the anxiety now..   Please let me know..  THanks!!!!

I am going to post for you the link to Professor C Heather Ashton DM site. Dr. Ashton's research has centred, and continues, on the effects of psychotropic drugs (nicotine, cannabis, benzodiazepines, antidepressants and others) on the brain and behaviour in man. Her main clinical work was in running a benzodiazepine withdrawal clinic for 12 years from 1982-1994.

I think you will find her site very helpful.

Ryleigh,

I know a lot of folks taper very slowly off any benzos. Do check in with your doctor for advice also.

I was reading that link posted and it scared me! I'm living with extreem amounts of anxiety right now! A lot of panic attacks! I didnt know that being on the benzos for a few weeks or months could loose its effectiveness. I didnt know how hard it would be to cut down! I take klonopin .5 in the am and .5 in the pm as well and this is alarming to me! I have been on this medication for 6 years. I sometimes am able to take just .5 at night. I really try to get by without meds whenever I can. I have heard so many horror stories about different meds! I just want to learn to do this with out adding more meds, and I'd like to cut my klonopin down to an "as needed" basis. This is difficult for me! When I dont take my nightly dose, I dont sleep. I guess I'm doing good though. I can go sometimes with just the .5 at night. Thats good. I just need to get a handle on this health anxiety!
