I noticed your diagnosis in you guys signature lines and I had a question.

Aries8- I see that you have Mitral Valve Prolapse and I know that some people with this feel palpitations and as I said in other posts I have palpitations and have had tests done and everything comes back normal. So my question in how did your doc discover this should I tell my doc to check for this? I had blood work done, ultrasound of my heart, and I wore a holter monitor for 24 hrs. I'm wondering would it show up in these tests.

Mazfire- I was wondering what led to your diagnosis with benign vertigo. I have the sensations where I feel as though I might fall over , even when sitting down. Its not so much a dizzy felling as if I'm lightheaded I just feel off balance. At first I thought it was because I refused to wear my glasses but now that I wear them everyday I see that's that isn't the issue.I have told my doc about this but he just brushed it off as anxiety and never ran any tests. The feeling does seem to intensify when I'm out in. The public especially when I'm shopping so I guess that's why my doc said its my anxiety. This vertigo really gets in the way of my everyday life because I don't like to do things because I'm scared I will just fall over.

I would really appreciate it if you could help me so that I will know what to tell my doc when I go back in 2 weeks. If I'm asking too much I'm sorry just tell me to mind my business nono I won't be offended turn . Also if anyone else reading has any input feel free to tell me. Thanks.

Nelle,

Have you had your thyroid checked out? When my thyroid was overactive, I got sensations much as you are describing. Maybe ask the doc to run a thyroid test.

I did get my thyroid checked and that was normal too. My psychiatrist sent me to get those tests done and I think that was included in the recent bloodwork my doc ordered I will definetly mention it to him. Thanks.

How about your Adrenal Gland have you had that checked out ??

Lyn, no I haven't had my adrenal gland checked I don't even know much about that can a problem with my adrenal gland cause one of these issues?

Hi Nellebutter, im Mazfire (Maz)

I have chronic ear, nose and throat infections with frequently ruptured eardrums and impacted sinuses. i have quite strong dizzy spells and they are quite frequent. My doctor did some basic exercises with me and determined the diagnosis of benign vertigo. I take Stemetil for it and am meant to do exercises daily (like shaking my head from side to side) but i dont do them as they make me nauseous. My father has Menieres disease and i was relieved to get the diagnosis of BV, rather than menieres.

Sorry it's taken me so long to answer your post. I almost didn't see it.

I have had an echocardiogram, 24 hr. and 30 day heart monitor, EKG's, ultrasound and recently a heart stress test. During this last test the cardiologist told me I don't have mitral valve prolapse. But yes, the tests you've mentioned would show mitral valve prolapse. Also, just having the doctor listen to your heart can sometimes help with the diagnosis.

I recently weaned off the beta blocker I was taking for the palpitations. I still have them. None of the doctors know why. My psychiatrist said the palpitations can NOT be from anxiety if I get them when I'm calm. I'm not sure I agree with her.

Lastly, my balance goes off sometimes. I can be sitting or standing. It first happened over 20 years ago while walking. Scared the heck out of me. Your doctor should check everything out and if nothing comes back as being wrong then it's anxiety. Medication will help with that.

Finding the answers and the right medication can be a tiring and frustrating journey. Remember you are not alone!

Thanks so much everyone for your help. Aries 8 I don't understand how my palpitations could be anxiety either because I also have them on the rare occasions that I'm completely calm. I am going to ask my Doc to check out the vertigo though.

I think palpitations can be from anxiety and can happen when we're calm. I just think some of us have issues that we subconsciously think about and think about and think about.....that would be me. When all the doctors say nothing is wrong, then it's anxiety. Try not to worry. I know it's hard though. We're here for you!
