First session of CBT

Hi All

Had my first session of CBT today, Did not go as well as i wanted and left feeling that I had not given her the full story. I have an other session next week on Fri again so will need to speak up and talk over every thing which has been on my mind. She said that I will have for sessions and then there will be a review to see if I need more sessions is this the norm?

Thanks for your post, Your right i do need to be honest and I will be next week. It did not help that I saw someone get sectioned and taken away by the police to hospital whilst I was waiting in the waiting room and also had two therapists in my session as one was a trainee my mind just went blank. thanks again

It does sound like a distracting set-up for your first time. I too hope that things go more smoothly next Friday for your second appointment.

I don't know whether the 4-week "trial period" is normal in the UK. In the States, the client and the therapist decide how things are going on an ad hoc basis just in terms of the health treatment. It may be that different health insurance providers put in different kinds of limitations; I don't know. My insurance covers, I think, 40 sessions per year, but I could continue to work with my therapist beyond that limit if I had another way to pay her.

Is this a teaching facility where you go to receive your therapy?  If not, I would speak up and let them know that you are not comfortable with a student being in your therapy session with you and your therapist.

I do not know how your medical systme works in your country.  Do be honest and upfront about how you feel.

It has been playing on my mind so will need to get it sorted at the start of my next session, I think honesty is the best policy and I need to get over how I am feeling so my therapist can help me get the most out of my sessions. Thank you all for the reply's.

Hey, Ben! I'm glad you had your first session but I'm sorry it didn't go very well. You waited a long time for this, too.

Make a list of what you want to discuss with your therapist next time. Also, mention how you were disappointed last time. Maybe they'll put a stop to having others sit in on your session.

How's work going? Any better?

Thanks for your post. Things at work not going to well had a big argument with manager last week because they are making it difficult for me to attend my sessions.
