Just wanted to share my pregnancy story, to offer some reassurance to those who have taken Paxil during their pregnancy. I have two kids, ages 9 and 5, who are as healthy and wonderful as can be in every area. Due to extreme anxiety attacks, I felt that I had almost no choice but to take Paxil during my pregnancies. I also have a history of seizures, so I had to take carbatrol as well, which can be linked to some fetal problems. (However, the risk of having a seizure while pregnant was a greater threat to the baby, so I took the medication.)
So, I worried throughout both pregnancies, but both of my babies, and I do thank God, were more than perfect. 10's on the apgar score and since then, never a hint of health problems.
(Since the warnings came out, I do still worry though, thinking well, maybe there's a hidden problem I don't know about.) I reassure myself and hopefully you, by knowing that life does not come with guarantees, we all make the best decisions we can, based on our knowledge and research, given our personal circumstances. Would I take paxil again knowing about the studies?
Probably not. But I've also heard there are studies that show there isn't a risk. I'd talk it over with your doctor. From my own personal experience, I know that paxil can be safe.
