aimster82,
First of all a warm welcome to HW. Second, I love your name - I call my granddaughter (Amy) The Aimster !
As a person with a 28 year history of anxiety I have learned that living with generalized anxiety disorder can be a long-term challenge. Making lifestyle changes, learning coping skills and using relaxation techniques can help along with medications or psychotherapy.
If you are questioning yourself about seeing a psychiatrist then I feel you should do so as you must be feeling bad enough that the anxiety is keeping you from living your life to the fullest.
Here is a quick breathing exercise you can do anywhere:
With your mouth closed, slowly inhale through your nose for about 5 or 6 seconds.
Hold the breath for 2 to 3 seconds.Exhale slowly through your mouth, taking up to 8 seconds.
Concentrate on this slow and steady breathing pattern for a minute or two. Notice how much better you feel afterward.
Kindly,
Kitt
