Just sharing my thoughts at the moment....

I'm watching the news right now about the Chilean miners and how they're hoping to send the first rescue person down in as little as two hours. It sounds like they're doing a great job of thinking of potential problems, having a light and oxygen tanks in the capsule, measuring vital signs, and staying in radio contact during the trip. But I can't help but think -- what if they're claustrophobic? What if they have a panic attack halfway up to the surface? I can only imagine if it were me and how anxious I'd be....

I have been watching too and I am amazed they made it through the whole event without being claustrophobic as well as the close contact with each other and no sunlight for how many days?  I would bet they are so thrilled to be rescued that they will not be bothered by the capsule.  When you know the event is almost over you can handle anything to get to freedom.

They are all very brave and I wish them much peace.

I was thinking the same thing Fugs. I feel like I have a good handle on my anxiety when life is normal. Even if I have a stressful day, as long as nothing catastrophic happens, I'm managing it. If however, something really serious happened to one of my family members, or me I doubt that I could handle it. I try not to future trip about this, but it bothers me sometimes.
I am so glad that the miners are finally being rescued and being reunited with their loved ones-my thoughts and prayers go out to them!

I'm happy to hear (and see) everything going as well as it has so far. It's a sobering reminder that things can always be worse.

Fugs,

I was reading today that it takes about 20 minutes to bring up each miner (so nearly an hour per each person for the whole process)  It was also mentioned that anxiety was a concern for the miners to be in the small capsule but  want the miners to remain alert in case something went wrong and the miners need to perform some duty.   Antianxiety medication was not going to be used. For a 20 minutes ride I would like a wee bit of med as my anxiety would be riding high.

I was very impressed with the triage they have done and their decisions on who to bring up in what order.  Also they are going above and beyond to give the miners and their families privacy from the public eye as they are rescued.

I suspect each of the miners will have some degree of PTSD.  It is a wonderful miracle to see them brought to safety.

Actually the mine these guys have been trapped in is absolutely enormous. The collapse occurred above them and they are hanging out deeper in the mine where it is still stable. So they've had room to move around this whole time from what I understand. Not to say that it wasn't a bad experience. I'm sure a lot of that time was spent with no electricity. I don't know what they've done for plumbing. For over a month they didn't have a hot meal.

That capsule thing would probably make anyone anxious, though. I couldn't imagine what it would be like if I had to ride in it, and my anxiety disorder doesn't even include claustrophobia. I'm sure they were happy to get out no matter what. What an ordeal, right?
