Asthma Sensations??

Ok so for a while now I've been having these feelings like I may have asthma.....

I am so sensitive to my body and thats probably all it is but I'd like to ask about it anyway.

Seems like sometimes I get a very small weezing in my lungs. I keep thinking that most ppl probably get this symptom from time to time and dont really pay much attention to it bc they arnt as sensitive as me. Like it could just be so small that only someone like me thats so sensitive would really worry over it. But breathing is my thing. I obsess about not being able to breath.

So down to my question, do you sometimes get a small sensation of weezing? Like you dont quite weez that you can hear. Just a small feeling like you might start? A weird sensation in your lungs?

Hi rb, it's hard to say, since asthma is often brought on by stress (physical and mental) it could be hard to tell the difference between a true consrtiction within the lungs(asthma) and anxiety-which is usually the chest-wall muscles tightening. These are totally different things happening in the body. They may however feel the same, and both be brought on by stress. the only way to know for sure is to see your doctor. Make an appointment and find out for sure. Do not buy the over-the-counter asthma inhalers! They will make your heart race, and in my opinion are not a good choice for your health. Let us know what you find out.

It can't hurt to see a pulmonologist. They'll likely have you take a pulmonoary function test to tell whether your lungs are working properly.

Califgirl, hi nice to meet you too! Um well, no I dont really have the feeling after palpations. I used to get the palps really bad a few years back and spent 5 years in a cadiologist's office. I was always in the waiting room surrounded by elderly ppl all looking at me (or so it felt like). The 3 cardiologists that I saw during that time all told me that I didnt have any heart problems. I had every test posible aside from them just opening my ribs and examining my heart that way! I wore 3 holter monitors and the last time wore it for a month. You'll notice when they put it on you that they will give you a number to call and a button to push whenever you have palpatations. They can scan your heart for the past 5 mins when you do that. Well, they never found anything wrong with my heart. No matter how much it skipped or raced, it was healthy. The last cardiologist I saw was the one that had me convinced I was fine. She explained that your heart can beat up to 200 bmp for 2 weeks strait and still not do any damage to it! That was amazing I thought! I noticed the less I worry about the palps, the less I seem to have them. Or notice them anyway.

Now I'm seeking a pulmonary specialist to check my lungs. I might have a bit of alleries or something I dont know. I hate to admit this and I know its dumb but I smoke occasionally. Maybe 2 a night unless my nerves are acting up. I know thats bad for me and I'll catch h*** when I go! I just want to do all the tests and be sure that I'm ok yet again. Feels dumb in a way like I'm just obsessing again and I should have known how to stop this by now. It just doesnt work that way tho. Been telling myself to cut myself a break for years and have yet to do it. I guess my dad's voice in my head all those years yelling, "Get over it!!", has now turned into my own voice. I'll learn. I'm just hard on myself.

Anyway, I have to wait until I can prove in this state that the state I just moved from has shut off my insurance before this state will pick me up for medicade. Then I can go to the doctor. Sucks!

I hope for the both of us two things

1. This is just us being sensitive to our bodies and nothing is wrong!!

2. We learn how to overcome the fears and sensitivities enough to live happier lives!!
