The first time I ever went for a PAP test the doctor also did a breast exam and found that I have fibroids in my breasts. I notice that if Im stressed they get worse, also with my menstrual cycle. I cut out caffeine because of anxiety and i know its good as far as firboids go. Can anyone relate and what can one do to relieve the pain? =[

Wondering if you had a mammogram ?  Fibroid cysts in the breast, called fibrocystic breast disease, are small, non-cancerous growths located in the breast tissue.

You are right about caffeine.  As far as pain control I would check with your Dr. Women who suffer from discomfort relating to breast cysts may be prescribed medications to help control the pain. Over-the-counter analgesics such as ibuprofen or naproxen sodium may be appropriate to use and may be recommended by the doctor on an individual basis.

Hi ROYGBIV, I also have fibroids. I was dx after I felt one of them and of course was concerned. I went in for an exam right away, and the dr. told me not to tell him where I had felt the lump. Well he located it (by palpatating) in about 5 seconds, which further freaked me out! He said he could tell just by feeling it that it was just a fibroid, but set up a mamogram appointment just in case. This also gave me a baseline, and was only a couple of years early. (I was 37)

I had the mamogram and everything was clear, and now I have a comparisson for when I get my official one this year. (now I'm 40) This was a little scary to go through, but I'm glad that I did.

So my point is, do your self-exams every month, but don't freak if you find a lump. Get it checked, but know that fibroids can feel like what you're not supposed to feel!

i know what they feel like and my doctor felt them too. Theyre in several different places in my chest. The pain is often a burning or aching under the skin. When i try to rub it out it hurts even more. I heard they can increase the chance of breast cancer. Im only 17, i feel like i shouldnt be having to deal with this.

I have heard conflicting reports on the cancer link...some say there is none, and others say there is a slightly higher risk-about 5%. This is not enough of a percentage to worry about IMO (except to be sure and have regular check-ups and mamograms) Things like diet, exercise, family history, ect. factor in way more.

I am sorry that this is causing you worry and discomfort, but try and put in in perspective. If this is the only health issue we have to deal with, then we're doing pretty well:)
