I have 2 children, a husband and an 81-year-old mother all with various forms of adhd. You are seeking help at the best time in terms of treatment. Some of the new drugs have nothing to do with speed and work very well with the subset inattention deficit disorder. Learning behavioral therapy skills that address the cognitive blind spots of adhd is priceless.
As to finding the right doctor- just keep looking until it feels like a good match. We found doctors with adhd with hyperactivity did not work well with anyone in my family. Doctors with a cognitive development and behavioral therapy background were the best. It took us a few tries with each person to find the right match but it was well worth it. I am very excited for you.
Many hugs,
SZm
