Weird experience.

Hi Everyone,

Last nite while taking one my supplements, which is medium sized (like the regular size of primrose oiil or b-complex - not too big or too small either), it felt like the pill was "stuck in the chest area...it was uncomfortable and i did felt some pain as well. the pain subsided from the chest area but my left shoulder blade started hurting and it still felt like the supplement hasn't really gone down yet and is "stuck" around there. its a weird feeling that almost gave me a panic attack.

i kept taking sips of water to try "push" it down, but the feeling of like the pill was still there didn't go away. and when i swallowed it got painful in the left chest and left shoulder blade area. i sat for about 30 minutes  with the discomfort/pain wondering wat is causing that and was already thinking making a trip to the doc.

then the husbnd came back home with dinner, so i thought i'll take a bite first before i go see the doc, and  i realised after swallowing the spoonful of food, it went away, no more pain and the feeling of something stuck there was gone too. felt relieved.

has anyone ever had this kind of experience before? i have swallowed larger supplements and tablets before without such experience before, so it got me worried.

I know what you mean. It feels like it is there for a long time. I am glad that eating helped you. I think that has helped me before too. Sometimes it feels like they go down sideways even if they are a long pill like a caplet. I am glad that it went away. The feeling that is.

Lol. yeap thats how it felt like it went sideways to the left or something? after that experience, i'm feeling a bit wary of eating pills of those size again, i think i should start to cut up the pills into small bits now.

I have a really hard time with my xanax. It is a small pill but it is a new generic and really bitter this time. I put it on the tip of my tongue so I don't taste the bitter, but it starts disolving and I always taste it. I hate it. I have trouble with lard pills also. It takes a lot of water to get them down. I hope that braking them smaller helps. I hate pills too and take many different ones. about ten all together. Yuck. But they help me so I have no choice.

S.R., Please be careful and check with your dr. and pharmacist before splitting any tablets. I know some (which ones specifically I don't) can't be split as they are designed to break down in the digestive system at a certain rate. Splitting these types of pills would cause them to release too rapidly!

I am sorry about that awful experience. I have had that as well. The lodged object is actually not stuck, but the feeling remains...I think it's caused by swelling in the area from the trauma of something getting temporarily stuck:(

Oh yes...many times. Painful and distressing. Youre right...it takes a bite of food to move it and sometimes where its kinda irritated it it can feel like its still there. But many times. Ive had food evn do that. You also have a nerve that runs from your stomach that when irritated can radiate pain up to your left shoulder n collar bone. I had sev GI surgeries and learned this originally in the hospital. The vegas nerve in the stomach can evn make ppl faint when irritated. Its what stimulates stomach acid. Betcha will be just fine. : )

I've had that happen with flies sometimes. I feel like I've swallowed one and that it's stuck there and it hurts. It's probably just my imagination though, because they're teeny and pills are way bigger and can actually get stuck! I'm glad the eating helped :) Now you know for next time! *hugs*
