why can anxiety manifest as whole body pain

idea      I have suddenly experienced on going anxiety in the last month. I have suffered from panic attacks before occasionally since 14 nothing big always delt with them. Recently my husband and i had a rocky patch and for 6 mnths i was upset and worried everyday but not to the point of depression. I was just really angry and then one day after a couple of mnths i would say 4 or 5 mnths afterwards i noticed panic epsodes comming on more frequent then i got and upper respiratory infection, 2 weeks after that bad sinus infection that would not leave took 2 rounds of antibiotics then it left while having sinus infection i was having severe panic and anxiety that lead me to try and stop smoking, i did for 2 weeks after the first week i was getting pains all over then they left had anxiety still went to doc he took blood nothing wrong, then i start with body pains tingling numbness siatica back pain joint pains head aches constant neck and back tightness swore i had scleroderma als and ms went back to doc again more blood work negative for any autoammune disorders even after still tingling prickly sensative to cold and still body pains doc and mom say anxiety can cause all these stpid things to happen. Is it my fear of pain that keeps this going how do i release this tension I tried celexa bad reaction so now i am scared of the pills i take kolonipins as needed but wondering if i took them everyday for a while alone if this would be enough to eventually make me stop aching and freaking out doc say nothing is wrong its stress and anxiety from mnths of tension anger and worrry. Hi LilJen and welcome to the A/P forum. As hard as it is to believe, anxiety can cause vast physical symptoms. As long as you have been checked out by your dr., you can probably be sure that this is caused by a cycle of stress.

Think about all that you have been through both mentally and physically. You have had emotional trials, and a couple of illnesses that wore you down. Then on top of that, anxiety starts to cause pain, which in turn causes more worry...it goes on and on in a cycle:(

It has the most comprehensive list of anxiety symptoms that I have seen. It's comforting to see them there in print, to reassure you that it could indeed stem from stress.

Have you tried recovery through therapy? Many of us here have found it to be really beneficial. It is in my opinion, the best long term solution for treatment of anxiety and panic disorders. If you'd like to know more about it, post back, as many of us can tell you our experiences.

rolleyes   thank you for responding i am just scared that this will never go away my whole moms side suffers from the anxiety  in some form or another it nice to know that i am not losing my mind i just wanna get better and not feel like crud

turn  My wife suffers from anxiety and is under a doctors care for it but it always seems to be the same. She went through a really bad time for awhile and the she finally started taking a simple anxiety pill that is inexpensive but it works when she has her worse symptoms. Her main problem is she worries all the time about her health. Every new ache or pain that she gets she seems to think that it is going to kill her. When she was at her worse everytime I went out of town she called an ambulance to pick her up. they never could find anything wrong with her but she keeps insisting that she is dying. I am not sure what these pills are but they have done wonders for her.

My wife just had a endoscopy to check out her stomach and as usual the doctor found nothing. However, the doctor did advise her to start taking sustenex (probiotics) and has really helped her so maybe since the immune system is mainly in the digestive tract (70 %) you should try this also and maybe it will help you. It is available in Wal-mart and it does seem to make you feel better (I now take it too). Best of luck to you.

thank you for your reply my mom says that i will never get better unless i take meds but they scare me my whole family on moms side has been on meds at 1 point and are fine now but i worry and appreciate all the input on alternatives other than ssri or anti anxiety meds i know i am not gonna die now lol all the labs say so i am fighting it tooth and nail without pills and it hurts too bad to do it anymore i think

If you are nervous about medication, and if you haven't looked into therapy, now would be a good time to consider it. It is very difficult to have good recovery without one or the other, or a combination of both.

Using CBT (an effective form of therapy in treatment of A/P) I was able to avoid using medication. This is not to say that I am against it, this is just what worked for my situation.

Do some research, ask your doctor, and think about getting into seeing a therapist. You don't have to suffer through this without help!
