I have a trip (by myself) in late July, from Los Angeles to Seattle for a wedding. I am completely terrified of flying!! I have already started to stress myself out about
it. Ironically, my mom is a retired flight attendant, and I have logged thousands of miles of flying under my belt, before I truly felt terrified.
I only became seriously fearful of flying and had extreme anxiety for my mom's safety after her airline had a horrific crash while I was a teenager. She had flown the same route, exactly one week before. That was too close to home.
It really didn't help that one of the flights that crashed on 9/11 was, once again, (the same flight my mom had flown on the week before).
I'm on 20 mg of Lexapro a day. I'm going to ask my GP for a quick anti-anxiety medicine to take when I go on the trip. But judging from past trips...I know the worst part of my trip is this:
When the plane makes the turn on the runway and is next in line for take off. And then suddenly, the engines ref up, the plane gathers speed....and there is absolutely no chance for you to say, "Get me the F off this plane!!"
The plane lifts off, and as it is gaining altitude, you feel it seem to drop, it's all you can do to try to scramble straight up in your seat.
Though, I definitely don't feel safe, I feel like I can get through the rest of the flight.
So, please tell me tips you have to get me onto that plane and through take-off!!
