Flu shot or mist

okay i was taking my 5 yr old for the flu mist tomorrow and getting it myself - then my sister and mom who are totally against all vaccines (one of them being a nurse even) mentioned that you get a natural immunity wherever you exposed inthe public anyway. they think all vaccines are dangerous and now i'm worrying that the mist which has a weakened live virus might give me symptoms even tho my son has had it 2 years in a row and hasn't had one symptom. 

i have no time off of work and trying to prevent getting sick but now i'm wondering if we even need it.  anyone gotten the mist and gotten sick?  i know lots of ppl get the shot and say they got sick from it but i think they were already exposed before they got the shot or after before their immunity took effect. 

anyway, not sure if i want to get it or not now.  or want my son to do it.

I am for the shots personally...it is a dead, not live strain of the virus, and to me that just seems like a better idea.

Are you or your son allergic to eggs? If not, then why not get the shot? They honestly do not hurt at the time! Your arm will get a little sore afterward, but neither myself or my daughter even felt the shot itself:)

We have had the flu shots for several years in a row now, and can say that it has been great for us. (I am puzzled by the natural immunity statement...if that was the case, why would anybody get it at all? I am not sure if that is something that I would take to the bank...)

Whatever decision that you make, I wish you and your son health and happiness:)

my son is 5 and freaks out at the talk of any shot. ha i don't like the mercury they put in the flu shots though. they have preservative free ones but not where my son can get one. walgreens only has them for kids 7 and under and his pediatrian only has the mist this year. says too many kids hate shots so they just do the mist. works alot qucker.

This will be one choice you will have to make for your son and once you have made your decision let go of the "what ifs?" Children have been receiving shots for years and yes it is nasty but only for a moment.

well, my son got the mist and i got the shot - today i feel like crap - caught a cold. ugh coincidence?
my son freaked out when i said shot so i didn't make him.

Oh no, I am sorry that you are not feeling well HN, but I am sure that it is a coincidence...it is cold season and I am fighting one myself. I really recommend the Zycam spray. It's a natural suppliment/cold virus fighter that seems to really work.

I am glad that you went ahead and got the vaccines. I really do believe that it is worth it in the long run, considering that the flu can knock you out for a week or more!

I started getting my daughter the shot after she had a terrible flu that left her so shaky and weak it was scary. I got her a prescription for TamaFlu it was so bad. (The RX cost something like 65.00 after insurance!!!)

It is a Fall family event now, like picking apples, only less fun, Lol:)
