What is wrong with you - if everything has checked
out normal medically then I suspect you are in the throes of anxiety and I know
you have heard this over and over but with a combination of medication and
therapy life will get better.
When you have an anxiety disorder is it so easy to
lose control and let fast shallow breathing become a full blown panic attack.
The key is to slow your breathing, and to accept even these scary symptoms.
Trust me when I say that these symptoms can be disturbing but will not harm
you. Always be prepared with as much information as possible so when it happens
again you know what’s going on and how to cope with it.
Breathe. Take some deep breaths. Try it right now.
Take in a deep breath and hold it for the count of 3 Mississippi's. Say the
word "In" when you inhale. Now exhale for a 5 Mississippi count. Say
the word "Out" when you exhale. Repeat this over and over. Oxygen is
so important, as silly as this sounds, the more the better. During an anxiety
attack a person may start to pant or take in quick gulps of air or even forget
to breathe. Proper breathing will make all the difference.
There are many other breathing exercises so find the one that works best for you and practice it over and over.
We are here for you and we know how you feel - you will be OK.
Kindly,
Kitt
