Hi there,

I have been taking xanax for about 2 months now for severe panic attacks/anxiety. My doctor just took me off my xanax to go onto buspar because he didn't want a 20 year old female staying on xanax because they are highly addictive, which i agree with. I was taking .5MG 3 times daily of xanax. Now im suppose to take .5MG 4 times daily of buspar. I took my first one and feel drowsy when i sit up or move around. I have the whole weekend off because i wanted to get use to this drug.  I hear it works well and it can work after 3 days. I was wondering how long it takes for the drowsyness to go away? I dont have anxiety right now and normally i do even just sitting in my room. I just don't want to feel loopy all the time but apparently its suppose to go away after a few days.. Anyone have any reviews on buspar??

Hello and again welcome.  Remember that each person will respond differently to medications.  I have been on Buspar for 4 years and I have never had any problems with it causing me any side effects.  However I take other AD meds so I suspect Buspar is mild compared to some of the meds I am on and any side effects were not a problem for me.

I am on Buspar 15 mg in the morning and 15 mg at bedtime.  I weaned onto the med slowly using the 5 mg dose twice daily to start with.  Perhaps you could talk with your Dr. re how often per day you are taking this med if you continue to feel tired from Buspar.

Good luck and I think your Dr. advised you well re not continuing Xanax for long term use.

Personally I did not like it, make me dizzy but I did not give it much chance. I thought about giving it another go but I have issues with depression and anxiety and the SSRIs tend to hit both.

If you are drowsy it is probably normal. Most of these meds have initial effects that fade as your body adjusts. If you are drowsy then rest some more, it will help you to get some rest and do some things that are enjoyable.

For me I always say, it's OK to rest. There is no rush. Everything is such a race these days that our bodies sometimes just need to empty out.

I am on Buspar and at first it made me sleepy and would give me headaches, so they reduced it. The tablet is able to be split, so if you call the doctor's office and let them know how tired it makes you they will likely just tell you to go ahead and split it in half if the side effects persist after a reasonable amount of time. I hope that this helps.
