You should contact your insurance company to get the specifics on the amounts charged and the portion which was covered. A co-pay usually refers to the portion not covered by insurance, so it doesn't really make sense that it's the same $40 regardless if it's for a procedure, follow up, or a consultation. The $40 may just be the minimum the doctor wants up front for an appointment, regardless of the total charge for the visit. You could very well be entitled to partial reimbursement for that from the insurance company. It's a bad idea to miss a follow up after a procedure. At the very least, you should contact the doctor's office and see if they'll set up a payment schedule. A lot of health professionals are very accommodating is such situations. Good luck.
