Hi wilkel and welcome.
Congratulations on your wise decision to stop drinking. I am very impressed and always so happy to hear when someone is getting help for their addiction. We lost my father to complications of alcoholism, so it is with personal experience that I tell you that you are doing an amazing thing!
I do recommend that you get involved with a program such as AA, and have your doctor assist you with your initial detox to start. Depending on your degree of dependency, you may need medical assistance to help you through the first few days...did you and your doctor discuss this?
Sometimes one can do this unassisted, with good support, healthy nutrition and of course support, but I recommend speaking with your doctor if you haven't already.
Keep posting here with us if you find it helpful...this may prove to be a challenging time as you deal with anxiety and new sobriety. We will be here to cheer you on and encourage you in this journey.:)
p.s. Please be careful with the Xanax. Do not mix with alcohol, and do some research on the possible dependency issues so that you are aware of them. Short term use is recommended, and therapy should be considered if anxiety struggles persist.
