Hey everybody! First of all I just wanted to say I appreciate everyone who takes part on this website, I found that just reading other people's problems gave me reassurance that things are not as bad as they seem sometimes and that there is hope for the future. I've suffered from anxiety for about 6 years, I'm now 26. I've been ok for about 4 years until I sat down at a Walmart blood pressure machine the other day (without resting before taking it, which I didn't know at the time) and it was roughly 132/84. I exercise very regularly and don't particularly eat unhealthy but that reading got me thinking that there was something really wrong with me. Had I relaxed myself before taking my BP or realized that those machines can be extremely unreliable, I think things would've turned out differently than what they have. I've since been to the doctor and been checked out, BP was slightly higher than normal at 130/84. My question is does anyone know how much bearing anxiety can have on a blood pressure test. It would seem reasonable to assume if you're nervous, BP will be slightly inflated but I've had a hard time convincing myself of that. Also, I wouldn't call this white coat syndrome necessarily because even if I had a home BP monitor, I would get nervous before the test because I'm anticipating a high reading. It's a catch 22 because I want to continue monitoring my BP but don't know how I can't get myself relaxed enough to get an accurate reading. Help!!
