I have a sibling who had/has similar issues. I also encourage you to seek therapy, since it did wonders for her. I think sometimes the benefit of talking out the anxiety and the issues can be very soothing, and having a third party do it, which I can imagine will help to allow the root of your issues come out, can only help.
I think that even though there were trusted people in her life, she still didnt feel totally comfortable discussing things with us -- perhaps that furthered her anxiety if she burdened us with the info? Anyway, I definitely recommend therapy, and I'm glad you have started sessions. It might really help!
