drinking and medication....

hello everyone.

my doctor said that i'm not supposed to be drinking while i'm on my meds, but sometimes it's the only way i can fall asleep. i'm on celexa-small dose daily. i used to have a couple glasses of wine at night before i started having the panic attacks. now, i'm nervous about having any amount of alcohol. i still drink, but am very anxious about it. can anyone share an experience with celexa or klonopin and alcohol? how did you get through this?! sometimes i feel like having a drink is the only way the i can fall asleep. please help!!

Alcohol can be a double whammy with A/D meds. First of all, it can exacerbate the effects of the drinks...making even a couple feel like a lot more.

Secondly, the alcohol can render the efficacy of the medication less than what it should be.

So there are two reasons why it is usually considered not a good idea to imbibe while taking A/D meds.

However, I have heard mixed opinions on the subject...so ask your doctor if having just one glass of wine is an option.
