Good Afternoon SJ,
Homesickness is a common many people get when
being away from home and yes even when they are on vacation. I actually had to cut my vacation in half one
time as I was recovering from a major depressive episode and I felt so
uncomfortable being away from my hubby that he changed my return ticket so I
could come home.
Whether the feeling hits immediately or kicks in after a few
days, the feeling is not a pleasant one. The most important thing to note is
that homesickness is not something to be ashamed of. Missing home is perfectly
normal! Although you may feel sad and miserable, you cannot let these feelings
ruin your adventure. If you’re always thinking about home and constantly upset,
you’re preventing yourself from having fun and enjoying yourself.
If you feel homesick, don’t be so hard on yourself. Bring
photographs of your friends and family with you wherever you go… so that you
can tell stories or talk about these pictures with the new people you are meeting.
This helps you to connect with someone new while reminiscing about happy
memories from home.
Just remember the most important thing…your vacation is time
limited and you will soon be back home.
Gentle Hugs,
Kitt
