Your hormones get all whacky before your cycle. Remember that everyone - even without anxiety - gets more emotional before their cycle. Hence all of the PMS jokes. :)
Iron rich foods and fresh fruits can help.
I try to have a nice medium-rare steak the week before, too. Someone recommended that years ago (can't remember why) and it always helps.

Also, bipolar and anxiety can overlap. If you're serious about that comment, you might want to bring it up to your doctor.
