Welcome Daxter,
In studies I have noted both anxiety and depression
are associated with a two to four-fold risk of developing acid reflux disease.
Some researchers believe that a brain chemical called Cholecystokinin (CCK),
which has been linked to panic and gastrointestinal disorders, may play a role
in the prevalence of GERD in people with anxiety disorders. Another possibility
or contributing factor may be that when people are anxious they tend to engage
in behaviors that trigger or worsen acid reflux.
I have read what you have tried so far for GERD and
the many tests you have had as well as lifestyle changes so I applaud you for
trying to help yourself with the help of the medical professionals.
Anxiety has been implicated in several chronic physical
illnesses, including heart disease, chronic respiratory disorders, and
gastrointestinal conditions. When people with these disorders have untreated
anxiety, the disease itself is more difficult to treat, their physical symptoms
often become worse. I understand this well.
Have you thought of looking for an integrative
medicine physician to help you as this was suggested to me as I deal with both
chronic health problem and anxiety? Both
doctors and patients alike are bonding with the philosophy of integrative
medicine and its whole-person approach -- designed to treat the person, not
just the disease.
IM, as it's often called, depends on a partnership
between the patient and the doctor, where the goal is to treat the mind, body,
and spirit, all at the same time.
Please know that we all experience anxiety in our own way but there is always hope even when you are in a dark tunnel................look for the light at the end of the tunnel.
Blessings,
Kitt
