Melissa,Hello and welcome to HealingWell. Before I forget I am going to post the link to our Bipolar Forum also: https://www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=13
I am wondering if Xanax is the best choice of benzo for you but I am sure your Dr. chose it for a reason. When I first had panic attacks my Dr. prescribed Ativan. Ativan comes in two forms - one that dissolves under your tongue and can stop a panic attack within minutes, or the pill form which can take 10 to 30 minutes to work. It can be taken only when you get a panic attack or as a preventative measure on a daily basis. Just food for thought for you and remember I am not a Dr., JMHO.
You are going to meet many wise and wonderful members here in the forum who are willing to reach out and help you. Also, as you probably know, therapy is a mainstay for helping people that are dealing with a mental health problem. I have a 31 year history of Depression and Anxiety and over the years I have done well. For the mini melt-downs and the one major melt-down I searched for help and work hard to get my problems under-control.
Be kind to yourself and know I support you so keep on talking to all of us here in the forum.
Kindly,
Kitt
