celexa withdrawl???

Hey all, I am currently wiening off celexa to zoloft, and my dr says to take 20mg every other day for a week, then 10 every other day for a week, then start up the zoloft everyday at 25mg. I am experiencing anxiety to a degree but I am really bothered by the inner jitters and cotton head feeling. Could this be from goin onn and off and on and off? Also feeling quite aggitated too. Yesterday was better than today, but I did take my 20mg last night. I really don;t feel as though my doctor gave me adequete advise on this, so I was hoping anyone could tell me what I'm doing wrong? I have been on celexa for 8 years, and have had no experience with meds or withdrawl before that. I feel so confused right now and I have no one to relate to. Please can anyone offer up some sound advise? I'd appreciate it muchly!!!!!!!

When I went off of Celexa a few years ago, I went through some pretty heavy withdrawal. My doctor failed to even tell me there would be withdrawal!

It is pretty uncomfortable, but I bet you're not doing anything wrong. Get extra rest if you can, plenty of fluids and fight through. You're strong enough to handle this. If you start having symptoms too intense to handle, contact your doctor, a pharmacy, etc. for help.

For me, it lasted several weeks. I don't mean to be the devil's advocate, but I wished I had been prepared.

I haven't personally checked it out, but I often see people recommend a website for this. I'll look in the resources for you and see if it's there.

Hugs to you friend! I know things are hard right now, but they WILL get better.

Thank you BeRock!! I can't believe I feel like this!!! I was only on 20mg! I think I should cut to 10mg every night this week, then maybe 5 and the zoloft together, but now I'm really worried about having to withdraw from that! ugh I dislike this and I'm pretty peeved at my doctor too!!!!! How high a dose were you on and what made you go back??

I was on 20 mg for 6 months, then 40 mg for 3 months.

I went back on it out of desperation, honestly. I remembered how calm I was on it (in combo with some other meds). Now, I remember why I went off of it to begin with. I'm experiencing one of the rare, darker side effects.

I'm about to have to come off of it again, but my PCP has decided I need to be under a psychiatrist's care to come off of it, so she's added even more medicines until she can get me in somewhere.

To say that I can sympathize with you right now is a big understatement.

But, while the withdrawal process feels like it'll never end, it does end. And in the scheme of things, it's a short period of time - it just doesn't feel that way when you're going through it.

It's okay to dislike it, it's okay to be ticked off, it's a frustrating situation and those are natural responses.

I was in shock when I realized what was happening to me. I've helped a number of people through rehab and one day, I commented to a co-worker, "I feel like I'm in freakin' DTs!" She looked it up and said, "yeah, you are."

My doctor had harped on how it wasn't habit forming. At that point, I didn't realize something could be no habit forming, but still be physically addictive. They should make that clear.

Hi

It can be a nightmare switching from one medication to an other and I know this from my own personal experience with medication changes. I would always recommend that a change over should be closely supervised by either you doctor or preferably a pdoc who will usually recommend a change over plan which depending on what medications are involved will take a min of a few weeks.

I have found that my anxiety usually does get worse during a changeover but will get better once I have weaned of an old med and my body has got used to the new medication.

Well, I'm supposed to be switching to zoloft, but my doctor sais to take 20mg every other day for a week, then 10 every other day for a week and I feel as if he is wrong. Also, I am confused as to when to start up on the zoloft because he told me to take it on the last day of taking my last dose of celexa. He is not a pdoc, just my gp and he was not the one who initially prescribed the celexa to me. I took 10 last night, and I think I will do that for a week, then go to 5, and zoloft together?? This is so ridiculous for me. I just desperately want to feel ok again. Hibee, how did you switchover??? What were you taking??
