I am sorry that you are not feeling well.:( My daughter also came down with a cold for the second week of school...lovely! I hope that it is a quick and mild one for you.
As far as your breathing goes...did I ever post my favorited breathing exercise for you? It is the best one that I have found (IMO) and if you would like, I will copy it here again. It could help you get out of the shallow breathing habit, as it did me.
As far as shopping...this is a pretty common challenge for some people. I have watched enough 'What Not to Wear' to know that a lot of people actually dread it!
Is there someone (sister?) that can go with you and help you to make some solid choices for your wardrobe? If not, some stores do have free consulting, with someone to help you pick out current/coordinating looks to try on. Then they will also help give you feedback, as to what styles are best on you.
If this seems daunting, then I would suggest looking at some catalogs/magazines and seeing what looks good to you, and then making a list of those things and essentials, and just go for it. Give yourself plenty of time so that you are not rushed, and make an afternoon of it, devoted to getting what you need.
