panic over something i read about PVC'S

I'm in an anxious mode at the moment because...( Now..I don't normally look on the internet for medical things too much because I scare myself!!) Well that's exactly what I've done!!

I came across a website stating that a doctor who usually says that PVC'S are benign in a normal structural heart,has apparently changed his mind and now says they can be a problem in a healthy heart!!
How they come up with this is beyond me,because your being told that they are nothing to worry about,and now this doctor has said otherwise!!

I feel really anxious now and every PVC I feel is extremely scary!!
I keep trying to tell myself not to worry but now I've read that I can't help it!!

I'm I abnormal for being this dramatic??

Miss Spice Bomb, He is but one Dr. from who knows where as this is the internet...........and if you look hard enough you will find someone who will disagree with the norm. You are doing good and I suspect some of what you read in the Cardiac Forum may have caused you  to venture onto the internet but trust me, your Dr. knows what is best and if you feel he doesn't than seek out a second opinion. If your Drs. tell you that you are fine after he has done tests, believe him. No you are not abnormal as it is scary to feel PVCs but anxiety can cause you to have PVCs and then you worry more. "Premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) are extra, abnormal heartbeats that begin in one of your heart's two lower pumping chambers (ventricles). These extra beats disrupt your regular heart rhythm, sometimes causing you to feel a flip-flop or skipped beat in your chest. Premature ventricular contractions are very common — they occur in most people at some point."  ~ reference Mayo Clinic ~ better than Dr. Google     Big breath and try to avoid Dr. Google. I hope that this helps you to relax a bit, and gets you one step closer to being able to ignore these intrusive heart beats.

Regular exercise, coping skills such as breathing/relaxation exercises, good nutrition and cutting out stimulants from your diet/lifestyle will all help as well.;)

I'm trying to put everything into perspective by knowing that thousands of people including myself suffer PVC'S and the majority of us are absolutely fine!!
I think my overactive imagination has been to blame as usual!!

I finally have an appointment for CBT on the 3rd of September,so I'm looking forward to hopefully control my Anxiety disorder and my fear of PVC'S!!

CBT is wonderful...I am so glad to hear that you are starting this treatment.:)

Give it time and effort, as both are required...and be patient with yourself and the process.

I do believe that you will make great progress with this!

We have posted in the cardiac forum about PVCs before. I also suffer from PVCs (and horrible health anxiety).

Both the ER doc and my own cardiologist told me that they are not dangerous - annoying and scary for sure, but not dangerous. As long as you are not having other symptoms with them like shortness of breath, dizziness, fainting or chest pain - I wouldn't worry too much.

I know it is easier said than done because when I get them I sorta panic a little every time I feel one. I seem to get them in spurts. They last 4 or 5 days at a time and then will just go away. I never know when they will be back.

Try to stay calm because worrying will just aggravate them more. I'm no doctor but that I know for sure.

I've quit looking thing up on the internet for this exact reason. For me my PVCs were caused entirely by diet and GERD. Glad to be (mostly) rid of them. Except for during an anxiety attack, I think there is a link between anxiety and the Vagus nerve that people need to look into because a couple years before I developed mental "issues" that could be written on paper (anxiety,GAD,etc.) I had a faint when I sneezed. The doctor told me it was a stimulation of the Vagal nerve and that it happens to some people, then years later my heart and digestive system, both controlled by that nerve, feel all jittery when I get anxiety. Maybe there's a connection, but I've never heard of anyone dying from PVCs alone.

Thanks for the reassurance!!
I do get slightly lightheaded when I get pvc's every other beat,but I'm not quite sure whether that's the PVC'S,or the anxiety!!

But I've learnt my lesson never to have a look on the internet for medical stuff!!

Its funny you should mention digestive issues because I do seem to have a lot of Acid reflux even when I've not eaten!!
Maybe there is a link to that!!

I agree with Korkee, I usually notice I get PVCs after a meal that gives me indigestion, or a few days before my period.
I got tests done years ago and the doctor said everything was okay! They really are scary when they happen though. They always keep me awake at night.
