Welcome to the group! I'm Joy.
I can relate to a lot of what you're saying. I'm fortunate enough to suffer from fewer chronic health issues, but I'm sitting at my desk beside a row of bottles of pills right now. I, too, am waiting to see this specialist and that one. I can't comment much on your other health issues, but I'm sure you noticed that there are forums here for many of the diseases and conditions you mentioned. Those people can help you with symptoms. WE can help you with your anxiety issues, even if it's only giving you an audience to release some of your pent-up emotions.
You may find some useful tools in the resources post at:
www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=9&m=104206Our very helpful moderators have compiled this list of resources. I've found several things there helpful. One that I would suggest you check out is the moodgym website. It is online CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), it is free, and you can move along at your own pace. I thought it was a little silly when I started, but it really has helped!
As far as the level of anxiety this place can be helpful for, many of our members suffer from very severe anxiety disorders and other mental illnesses. This provides a safe place for all of us to vent, get feedback about
specific issues and build relationships. I've been here a few short months and truly think of some of these people as close friends. We'll support you as much as we can!
I don't do well with breathing exercises and focused meditation, either. I have found blowing bubbles to be one of the most useful coping mechanisms for me. It requires deep, even breaths, but you're not focusing on your breath - you're focusing on blowing a really big bubble, a lot of bubbles, etc. Watching the bubbles float away, their colors swirling in the sunlight, also helps me relax. I think there's also a sense of nostalgia - a reminder of a time when I had less reason to worry. Sounds goofy, but it really helps me. There's little investment in trying it - $1-2? Worth a shot! haha
It sounds to me like you might also benefit from therapy. You may need someone to help you talk through your feelings and get to the root of your anxiety (beyond illness) and develop more positive patterns of thinking. I'm so thankful I made the leap and started seeing a psychologist. My panic attacks grow fewer by the day.
Best of luck and nice to meet you!
I'm also sorry for rambling - I tend to do that a LOT. lol
