Hi M.C,
I too take xanax. I take mostly at night to sleep, but do take when feel particulary
stressed during the day.
Xanax is a pretty short acting anxiety med, and my case it's effects wear off fast,
as I have a high tolerance for any meds to begin with.
S.C advice is sound. A well rounded aproach is the best way to go (counseling,
CBT, and adjusting your meds, perhaps).
The thing with xanax is, the longer you take it, the more you need to feel the same
effect. Your body will pretty quickly build tolerance for it.
I find that exercise helps me out with dealing with stress and anxiety.
It is not easy, I know, but it is helpful for you to find something besides the
meds to deal with it. If you have a friend or confidant, to talk to. Or maybe
take up a hobby, for a diversion. Anything that takes you outside yourself.
Also, maybe, you should talk with a professional about switching to a longer
acting drug.
I am right with you, and wish you well.
