A few times a year (including today) I feel like my anxiety is sufficiently acute that I need to take a pill to calm down. I do not have generalized anxiety, social issues or phobias, but instead anxiety tied to specific events or concerns. A typical situation: Something happens, I get very worried about
it, I beat myself up over how I handled it and how I could have done it better, worry about
consequences, and then I can't think of anything else -- the worry is with me all day. Those are the situations in which I feel like I need to take a pill, to get a little bit of relief. The relief is temporary, of course, but even a few hours being "anxiety free" is a gift.
I do not abuse this. All I take is one .25mg Xanax. I am VERY careful not to let this become a habit.
My question is, for my type of use, is Xanax a better choice or should I try Klonopin? I know you all are not doctors, and I am not looking to you for medical advice, but for those of you who have tried both of these medications, on a prn basis, how do they differ, in your experience?
I realize Xanax has a shorter half life, and so quicker on and quicker off -- but other than that, how do they make you feel differently?
Thanks!
