Why does caffeine affect me differently now?

Caffeine use to be no-no #1 for years but now I drink almost 12 cups of coffee a day. I'm always being told that it's bad for my anxiety and my health to drink that much but my anxiety actually goes away when I drink that much caffeine and my body is in perfect shape. Actually, I had a doctors appointment the other day and was almost late so I chugged a cup of coffee and drove off to the doctors. My blood pressure was 110 over 70 and my heart rate was 65. Coffee doesn't seem to affect me the same way it does other people, or even myself a few years back. Just wondering what could have caused the change over the years. Any ideas?

Honestly, the first thing that crossed my mind was my Husband.  He has ADHD and when he drinks caffeine, it calms him down....probably the way Ritalin works for people with ADD and ADHD.

That is odd that the caffeine isn't effecting you anymore, I had the reverse happen with anxiety. I used to drink tons of coffee 8-12 cups a day plus unsweetened black tea and now I cant drink any coffee without major hot flashes/shakes/racing heart.

Opinion here as well, I have a friend that is OCD and ADHD and the coffee calms hims down too, so maybe there is something to it. I think you are lucky... I miss my coffee :(

I had the same thought as Merrida. You should talk to your doctor about it and see what he/she thinks and recommends.

Twelve cups still sounds like too much to me...even if it does make you feel better...your body is most likely addicted to the caffeine, and you may want to wean down a bit.:)

Well don't try to leave me out, I limit myself to one pot a day, I can lay down in the floor and go to sleep.
but tea is a different story, more than one glass and I will have palps all night and run to the urnal.
