Similar to when we communicate on the forum, emotions and intent are very hard to relay when it comes to texts or posting. Try as we may, there's not the inflection in our voices that we pick up in real life.
Remember, you can only control what you do, say, and how you respond. So even if we think a polite response would have been appropriate, he responded in a way that he felt inclined to.
It's so easy to misinterpret things on the internet. If you guys have a strong friendship, I'd chalk this up to just that: A case of misinterpretation. I wouldn't bring it up and "beat a dead horse," so to speak, just let it go and move on.
When you speak in person, later down the road when it isn't so fresh, maybe you could bring it up, later, by mentioning how you felt sad, and that you were feeling playful...without blaming him for anything.
Life's too short to get hung up on texts that get misread. And sometimes, people get busy in real life and texting back and forth isn't always possible.
