Here's one way to look at it: What would you tell your best friend, your mother, or your daughter,...if they came to you with the same question?
I think that S.C. said it perfectly. What things have you tried so far, for how long, and how well have they worked for you? Are there other things, non-med things, that you believe you could or should try? And how is this affecting your life.
So, if your best friend, your mother, your daughter,...was in need of assistance, what kind of advice do you think you'd offer?
It's true that everybody's different, and it's up to you and your doctors (must do the communication dance) to determine what your options are.
If you haven't taken meds,....do you feel better now than you used to? Has that worked well for you?
If you start on the meds and don't like them, have an exit plan in place with your doctor to properly wean you off. Not all meds are necessarily forever. I think the diabetes example is perfect. Would you be having these feelings if your body needed insulin?
For me, I do take meds, and I'm also in therapy. For me, I've found the combination has worked better for me than either one of these by themselves. I had to ride that same merry-go-round that you're on, second guessing my choices and analyzing...
When you're ready to hear the answer, I find that that's when it reveals itself.
