I start my new job tomorrow and for some reason I'm horribly anxious about it. I'm afraid my GI issues are going to keep me from being able to keep the job and my family REALLY needs me in this job. Our finances are pretty well depleted and this is my dream job. I have worked in the IT field my whole life and this is an IT directors position. My GI issues have been causing me horrible anxiety which of course makes my GI issues worse. Vicious ugly cycle. Some support or advice would be greatly appreciated. I have ativan for when I have an attack and haven't had to take one in over a month. Plus the knock me out...

I take remeron at night, there is NO insomnia on that med LOL. It knocks your butt out about an hour after taking it. Hehe. And thanks, I know I can do the job, it's the pain from the ibs that has my anxiety on edge.

Good luck to you..My GI issues flare up at times, and then totally cause havoc on my anxiety. I have actually been doing well on this new medicine called Nulev, and it seems to keep the cramping at bay. I actually have a good job, and I love it no stress. But many days I couldn't drive to work without stopping at the gas station in between. Then I would freak out about not making it. Your not alone. I think you will be fine, and just remember that this is what you want. I pray every morning now, and leave it in Gods hands. I don't know you of course, but say to yourself this is going to help your family.

Hi Chad,

I echo the congratulations...and the advice above. If you IBS presents as D, then the Immodium is a good idea. Have you had any luck with this in the past?

Taking some extra time to work your coping skills tonight and tomorrow would be time well spent. Also, envisioning a positive outcome will go a long way in ensuring that thing go favorably.

Getting through your first day will be a great feeling, and I am sure that tommorrow evening will find you looking forward to going back for day two! :)

I echo the sentiment about preventative Imodium. I'll usually take a half of a xannax too in situations like these.

All my best on your first day of your new job! You'll be an old pro before you know it!

I don't have the ibs-d or ibs-c just pain :( I could handle the d or c more than I could the pain.

Kmf.. Remeron is a wonderful med. It was brought out I believe the late 80 s and the main side effects with it is sedation and increased appetite. Those are the two reasons people stop taking it. It also has the least amount of side effects out of all the depression/anxiety meds. Not saying it doesn't have side effects but if you do some research on it you'll see most people stop taking it because of the sedative it appetite that it causes. It WILL knock you out and it WILL make you hungry as all get out. But it has been a life saver to me twice now.

more congratulations on getting your dream job! praise God! could you even take a third or quarter of the ativan, just in case you are worried that half might still knock you out? praying for you, let us know how you go, but they wouldn t have given you the job if they didn t have complete confidence in you. you got through the interview process, and i just feel that you will ace this job and become a most respected member of the firm, blessings

Well the first day wasn't bad at all anxiety wise, but one of my incisions from the gallbladder surgery 10 weeks ago is horrifically painful. GI issues aren't horrible but not great it was bearable I guess. Day one down day two will be different I'll be in the office all day doing paperwork. Today I was in the field over seeing a wireless access point job for a huge church here. Will be back at the church Wednesday. I'll keep you all posted if you want me to. Anxiety today crept on me one but it lasted about 30 seconds and was gone

I believe congrats are in order as well.

Let's see,....dream job,...first day went great (and that involved you having to move around a lot, as in,...not as easy to make a quick "dash" if you needed to), and you pulled it off without a hitch,....tomorrow will be even better!

My biggest issue is that one incision... It's been 10 weeks since my surgery and it is still like someone is digging a knife in me :(

I am very happy for you, and am sure that you will have a great returning day tomorrow as well.:)

As far as your incision site, have you had it checked out by your doctor?  You will want to make sure it is dry, not red/inflamed, ect...

If no sign of infection is visible, it could be that you have adhesions in the developing scar tissue.

Ask your doctor about this possibility, as it can be broken up with massage to reduce the pain.
