traumatic event?

I've been on here for a while now. I try and help if I can, and reply when I can. I have read many posts, and the one thing I have come across in many posts is that most people who have suffered a traumatic event when they were young, are more proned to anxiety and panic attacks. I never even thought of this back when I first started anxiety. The only thing I don't understand is why is this? I am the youngest of 7 kids and I have been through alot, way to much to post and most of it to bad to post. Most of us in my family have went through alot, but a few of us went through worse things. Why is it that I am the only one with the anxiety disorder? I talk to my other family members and nobody has any of the same issues as me. Of course they do have other things, but as far as I am aware not anxiety. Why did it just effect me?

Thank you, that does make sense. Thankfully I've never given into alcohol or drug use. My one brother is an alcoholic, so I'm sure if he does have any issues, he doesn't know it. My daughter is 12, and I guess it's hard for me too, because I lost my Dad at 18, and my Mom at 20..so I fear my daughter will lose me..I posted on your other question yesterday I think, we have alot of the same issues...

I also believe that for many there is a physiological component as well!

Being low/deficient in certain hormones/neurotransmitters that help to maintain a stable/calm mood is something that people with anxiety often have.

Nature or nuture is the age old question, no?

I think the most important thing to focus on however, is not the why so much...as the what.
