Hi SK,
I am glad to hear that you are recouperating and getting back to work! I do hope that you are feeling well and enjoying getting back in the game! You certainly are a role model for all who know you. :)
As far as what to say...I would be prepared with a 'script' that you stick to, so that you are saying just as much as is appropriate for general social conversations...and no more.
It can be hard to know where the line is! We all know people who cross it...with TMI...
...yet, you don't want to appear so guarded, that as you say, people are uncomfortable asking questions or talking about something that should be openly shared...such as general talk about your experiences.
So write it out...and practice memorizing/rehearsing what you are comfortable saying.
If people ask a question that you are not sure about answering...try my go-to response...that keeps me from just blurting out any old thing that pops into my head on the spot!
I say:
"That is a good question, let me think about that for a moment."
This buys me some time to get my thoughts in order, and say what I want to say!
I hope that is all goes well for you as you get back to your routine.
Continued healing, and let us know how it is going soon.:)
