I want to share something with you that works for me. I hope it helps.
When 'those thoughts' come around, I think its important to NOT fight AGAINST them...don't say 'that's not true, this probably won't happen' etc etc ... instead I just Step Back and 'look' at them and say "hello...here you are, thanks for stopping by, bless you, and please feel free to leave...I allow you to leave."
I know that pushing against the thoughts only makes them push back harder...Sometimes I picture myself watching a rough white water rafting trip (your thoughts)...and just detach and observe them....because, as I keep telling myself "This, too, shall pass"...who knows when!! :) , but it will. So just try to do some things you really enjoy, even if its just talking extra to someone you really like... giving someone a call you haven't talked to for awhile...go for an ice cream cone! :) ... but all the while know it will pass...
Pushing against tends to make thoughts stronger...just remember YOU are NOT your thoughts...there is the Real You in there that is your strength...
