New anxiety symptom - med related?

I started Lexapro awhile back (April maybe) just recently upped the dosage to 20mg on June 10th. I also increased my Remicade dosage for Crohns the same day.

Sunday I took my wifes propranolol instead of my lisinopril since I was out. Dumb idea. I'm sure it triggered it but the main symptom was a burning sensation, something I've never had before.

Today I had it happen again in my left arm.

I feel like upping the Lexapro has upped the anxiety, and now it's getting worse. Taking a med not meant for me wasn't a good idea either and it didn't start until that happened so I'm just wondering.

You went in to the ER if I remember correctly? Did you follow up with your doctor?

What did they all have to say about this?

Since you have had so many changes in your Rx's lately...and the little hiccup with your and your wife's BP meds...I think this is likely related...

...however, you really need to get a medical professional's opinion to be on the safe side.

Use your coping skills to lower your anxiety overall as much as possible until you can get in and consult about all of this.:)

Yeah I went to the ER again today after my left arm went numb and tingly. I was feeling pretty blah today and was trying to rest, pretty sure I was dozing off when it happened. I'm really bad about visiting the ER.

After the first visit and call to my Pdoc he added Effexor XR 75mg which I didn't take today out of fear of starting new meds. I left a message late today for the doc after my 2nd visit to see what he wants to do. I won't get a call til tomorrow.

I'll take the Effexor XR alongside my Lexapro tomorrow, which is what he wants me to do.

I was doing well until the incident with lapsing on my BP meds. So yeah I'm sure its caused a lot of this and I'm just riding through it.

Aw...you have been throught a lot lately. Those changes are not easy.

Try to rest assured that you have been seen, have checked out as healthy...and can move onto your next recommended step for your Rx regimine.

I hope that it brings quick relief!! Keep us posted.:)

Random thinking out loud here, but I think that Lisinopril is a different class of meds than Propanalol??

I take the Lisinopril, and in my experience, I had extremely negative side effects when they tried to put me on Propanalol. I was a wreck and felt like it took quite a while for it to get out of my body.

Maybe we're similar in that regard?

Might be, I've been on Lisinopril for about 10 years, long before my Crohn's and Anxiety problems. I also did dumb things like stop taking it for long stretches back then too.

My Pdoc's nurse called this morning and said to stick with the Lexapro and start the Effexor, which I did. Still a little jittery, I only upped the dose of my Lexapro 8 days ago so I know there's some adjusting to do. But not as bad as Sunday or yesterday.

Lisinopril   is a type of medicine called an ACE inhibitor.  Propranolol is a beta-adrenergic blocking agent.

Propranolol has a relatively short half life, so it begins to wear off within a few hours. You did not say what dose of med you took from your wife's Propranolol, however, with the short 1/2 life, this medication should be well out of your system by now.

Adding Effexor XL at 75mg will most likely cause you the same kinds of side effects you would notice from other anitdepressants - and each of us reacts differently so do stay in touch with your Dr.

I have used poor judgment in taking my meds also on occasion. If you should happen to have anything like this happen to you in the future, call your Dr.  If he is not available, Poison Control can be your best friend.

Hi,

A burning sensation is not a documented side effect of propranolol use. If I had to guess what happened I would say it may have been a nervous response to taking a medicine that was not yours. Like stkitt mentioned above, they are two totally different medications used to treat high blood pressure.

I personally get left arm and leg weakness when I get nervous or anxious. This has not always been the case though - it just started happening one day (my anxiety symptoms have evolved over the years). I'm not sure what your physical symptoms of anxiety are, but maybe this a new symptom you get when you're anxious?
